 Get Involved

There are only two bodies that represent the specific needs of the Almonte neighborhood: The Almonte Sanitary District and the Almonte District Improvement Club. The Almonte Sanitary District oversees Almonte sanitation needs and no other business. The Almonte District Improvement Club addresses all other concerns of the community.

The Almonte District physically resides within unincorporated Mill Valley and is governed by the County of Marin (not the City of Mill Valley). Unless representatives of Almonte bring the neighborhood’s concerns to the attention of the county, many community issues are not addressed. This includes basic infrastructure needs that one would assume the county would already be taking care of but is not, such as maintenance of our roads.

If you live in Almonte, the ADIC needs your help. Please look at our list of goals. Not a single one of the listed goals will be achieved without effort from Almonte residents. Our elected representatives will not pursue Almonte’s objectives without regular prompting from locals. If there is a goal you care about and would like to get involved, please let us know.

COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TRAINING (CERT)

The Southern Marin Emergency Response Planning Group is committed to providing leadership and service to the community we serve in the event of a disaster or other emergency.  We will strive to provide training and support to our communities; and emergency response to aid our families, neighborhoods, and public safety professionals.

Southern Marin Community Response Teams

What is CERT?  Simply put, Community Emergency Response Teams are groups of amateur emergency workers.  CERT personnel receive basic training from emergency response professionals and work in the initial aftermath of a disaster to augment official emergency services.  CERT members are not intended to replace a community’s professional response capability, but rather to serve as an important supplement to it.

The Fire Department and Districts of Southern Marin have joined together to teach the CERT program.  One format is available for this 10 hour series: Two five hour classes offered over one weekend.  Sat. and Sun. 9 AM to 2 PM

All trainees receive a CERT manual, and a BBQ lunch is provided during the second class.  Upon completion, each trainee will receive a disaster service worker ID card, helmet, vest, and certificate of completion.

Interested persons must call ahead to sign up for a particular class.  Call (415) 388-8182 for information.  Special scheduling for groups of 15-25 can be arranged.

Cost: $25 per person; $35 for two members of the same family.  Make checks payable to SM CERT, and mail to: Chief Mike Stone, Southern Marin Fire District, 308 Reed Blvd., Mill Valley, CA 94941
